Reflection: "To strive for an maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race." Umoja
"The Benefit that Umoja has on me and my peers is about the love and the bonding that we all share. We are a family and a community. This is an amazing feeling. I can take this and manifest it in other classes." Destiny Ezell
"I felt like I did not want to come back to college and I am here now because of Umoja. Umoja is a family. Sometimes I see a lot of darkness in society and I want to be that light. Umoja is that light." Seth Davis
"I always try to come to class as much as I can. I think about the community we have in Umoja and every time I miss class someone always tells me what we missed and that I was missed. I always feel welcomed." Melanie Williams
"That is why Black students need Umoja. We go through racism and discrimination on a daily basis. Those experiences in and of themselves will impact the way we can focus in some classes. In a traditional class there is no time to call a "porch" or just talk with each other or the instructor about events that impact how we feel. We do have a lot of successes."
